I do what I do because God has entrusted me with the love and well being of five people. Some days I forget that it's not about me, and I get caught in a hissy sissy fit over hurt feelings and kitty litter boxes needing to be cleaned AGAIN. Most days I remember that I am a servant of the Lord, and that I need to treat my family as He has treated me. I pray (loudly, sometimes) for the strength, knowledge, clarity and patience to raise these children as He needs me to raise them.
I have no issue whatsoever putting aside my own personal wants and needs for these kids. In 15 1/2 years they'll all be on their own and I can get back to whatever hobbies I may have, participate in whatever leisure activities I may choose. Until then, I take pride in identifying myself as a Mom. My days revolve around laundry, shopping lists, Little League practices and doctor's visits (we really have a lot of those around here). More parents should do the same.
Ain't they great?
